Anna Thomson and Laura Thomson raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW)…
Jason Trimble raises Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) bison at Buffalo Hill in Stapleton, Nebraska. The ranch is home to a herd of strong and healthy bison raised on the Nebraska sandhills native prairie.
The bison graze freely in large open pastures year-round where they are able to demonstrate their natural behaviors. In addition to being Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, the bison herd at Buffalo Hill is Certified Grassfed by AGW, the first—and only—food label in the U.S. and Canada that guarantees food products come from animals fed a 100% grass and forage diet and raised entirely outdoors on pasture or range.
Raising grassfed bison on pasture takes advantage of the natural needs and behaviors of the animals: “Ultimately, we want our bison to be bison. Our management goal is to decrease management, so that our practices are as close to nature as possible. We also care deeply about maintaining the native pastures and we manage our animals to have a positive impact on these lands.”
Attaining certifications by A Greener World was important to Buffalo Hill because they wanted their products to have a third-party verification for their practices.
