David and Amy Bachman, along with their two boys Edmond and Issac, raise Certified Animal…
Nathan Martin and his family raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) beef cattle in Buncombe, Illinois. In 2007, Nathan established Sunrise Valley Farm with six cows and a twelve-acre pasture. Today, the Martins have over 100 cows on 260-acres, split up into at least thirty pastures. “We are committed to providing healthy and tasty beef to our customers,” says Nathan Martin.
In addition to being Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, the cattle herd at Sunrise Valley Farm is Certified Grassfed by AGW, the first—and only—food label in the U.S. and Canada that guarantees food products come from animals fed a 100% grass and forage diet, and raised entirely outdoors on pasture or range. “We have worked extensively at establishing superior grass in our pastures,” says Nathan. “Our cow’s diets consist of pasture and hay, depending on the season, and minerals.”
The Martins chose to pursue Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW and Certified Grassfed by AGW certifications because they felt the programs best mirrored their exemplary animal husbandry practices and commitment to sustainability. “We check our cows every day, and it’s often a family project! If an animal develops a need, we strive to help and heal. We have found that healthy cattle living in a low stress, natural environment stay healthy better, and we rarely treat with medicines,” says Nathan. “We are proud to work with A Greener World through their extensive auditing process for our Grassfed and Animal Welfare Approved certifications.”
