Marcus Troup raises Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) and Certified Grassfed by AGW sheep and beef cattle at Troup Land and Livestock in Buffalo, Missouri. Troup Land and Livestock started in 2010, when Marcus became interested in sustainable agriculture and rotational grazing. “We set out to build a business that could offer superior food and refined our intensive grazing practices for the species on our farm,” said Marcus.
The sheep and beef cattle at Troup Land and Livestock are rotationally managed, grazing one section of pasture before being moved to fresh fields. “Our animals maintain a diet of mixed grasses that are native to southwest Missouri,” says Marcus. Rotational management allows grass to recover before animals return to graze again; it also keeps the soil properly fertilized and minimizes the build-up of internal parasites, thereby avoiding reliance on chemical treatments.
In addition to being Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, the flock of sheep and herd of beef cattle are Certified Grassfed by AGW, the first—and only—food label in the U.S. and Canada that guarantees food products come from animals fed a 100% grass and forage diet, and raised entirely outdoors on pasture or range.
The Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW lamb from Troup Land and Livestock will be sold under the Central Grazing Company brand. Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW lamb and beef are also available directly from the farm.
