Marjorie and William Seiderman raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) laying hens outdoors on pasture or range at Bluebird Trail Farm in Corning, New York. Bluebird Trail Farm was established in 2002 to provide people with an opportunity to become more closely connected to where their food comes from and how it’s grown.
The small flock of laying hens at Bluebird Trail Farm are allowed to roam free and enjoy the outdoors, where they can perform natural behaviors like running, dust bathing, pecking and scratching for seeds and insect larvae. The hens are moved regularly to fresh ground, preventing the buildup of pests and diseases and ensuring the land remains healthy and productive. Not only does this type of management approach provide the highest welfare conditions for the hens, but it also produces healthier eggs containing three times as much vitamin E, seven times more beta-carotene and twice the omega-3 fatty acids as industrial eggs. “We make every attempt to ensure our animal care meets the highest animal welfare standards,” says Marjorie.
The Seidermans plan to use the Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW label to highlight their high-welfare, sustainable farming practices.
Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW pasture-raised chicken eggs from Bluebird Trail Farm are available directly from the farm. For more information, and to inquire about placing an order, contact Marjorie and William at firstname.lastname@example.org and 607-329-4023.
