Health Hero Farm – South Hero, VT

Robert Fireovid and Joan Falcao raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW), Certified Grassfed by AGW beef cattle at Health Hero Farm in South Hero, Vermont.

Robert and Joan manage around 20 breeding cows and one bull outdoors on pasture on approximately 175 acres of relatively flat land, with access to 1,100 feet of shore along Lake Champlain. Feeding their cattle a 100% grass and forage diet, their rotational grazing practices are carefully managed, ensuring that grazing maximizes retention of soil nutrients, increasing soil fertility and forage productivity. Robert and Joan believe that these production methods benefit not only their livestock, but also their land and the people in their community who consume their products: “We simply think it’s the right thing to do, and we want to connect with beef consumers who agree.”

Certified Grassfed by AGW is the first—and only—food label in the U.S. and Canada that guarantees food products come from animals fed a 100 percent grass and forage diet, raised entirely outdoors on pasture or range, and managed according to the Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW leading welfare and environmental standards.

Robert and Joan chose to pursue Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW and Certified Grassfed by AGW certifications as a way to differentiate themselves in the marketplace: “We work hard to improve conditions for the animals under our care and are proud to have achieved the rigorous standards required for AGW’s certifications,” they add.

Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW beef from Health Hero Farm is available direct from the farm, as well as at the Champlain Islands Farmers’ Markets in South Hero and Grand Isle, and the University of Vermont Medical Center Farmers’ Market and the Dot Calm Café in Burlington.
