Darcy and Joanna Nobriga run their cattle operation, Double D Ranch, in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii. The cattle at Double D Ranch are Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) and Certified Grassfed by AGW, the first—and only—food label in North America that guarantees food products come from animals fed a 100 percent grass and forage diet, and raised entirely outdoors on pasture or range.
The herd of Brangus and Angus Composite cattle graze in harmony with the land using rotational grazing techniques and are given the lowest stress environment as possible. Raising animals on pasture in this way has known benefits for the animals and the land. “The cattle do well in our wet environment that in some years can see over 100 inches of annual rainfall,” says Joanna.
Darcy and Joanna pursued AGW’s Animal Welfare Approved and Grassfed certifications because of the value it adds to their product. “We raise our grassfed beef to sell to local markets and these labels will help to tell the story of our products, with verification to back it up. For example, not all “grassfed” producers are actually raising their cattle 100 percent grassfed, but we are. These certifications help to give us more credibility in a confusing marketplace.”
Double D Ranch products are available direct to consumers through regional farmers markets and direct shipping.
