Windy Acres Dairy Farm – Prineville, OR
Billie Johnson raises Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) dairy cattle at Windy Acres Dairy Farm in Prineville, OR.
Starting her herd in 1994, Billie Johnson manages her dairy cows outdoors on pasture at the foothills of the Ochoco National Forest. The cows are rotated through the 20 acres of fields, grazing one section of pasture before being moved to fresh fields. This type of management allows grass to recover before cows return to graze again; it also keeps the soil naturally fertilized and minimizes the potential build-up of internal parasites, thereby avoiding reliance on chemical treatments.
Windy Acres Dairy Farm is more than just a dairy farm; the farm frequently hosts events: offering farm to table dinners, annual Dairy Days and encourages volunteers and tours to come learn what it takes to run the farm.
Windy Acres Dairy Farm sells AGW-certified dairy products including milk, cream, ice cream, yogurt, kefir, buttermilk, whey, sour cream, cream cheese, ghee, butter and cheese direct through their herd share membership program. AGW-certified milk products can also be purchased at the Northwest Crossing Farmers’ Market in Bend, Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market in Medford and Ashland, Rainshadow Organics Farm Store in Sisters, Newport Avenue Market and Volcano Veggies CSA in Bend, OR.
