Hart Dairy – Waynesboro, GA
Hart Dairy was founded with the goal of treating cows humanely, making highly nutritious milk accessible for more people in the United States, and building an environmentally sustainable dairy.
Hart Dairy cows are raised outdoors on pasture and never confined. With strict standards for animal care, nutrition, and the environment, Hart Dairy products are Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) and made with milk from dairy cows that roam free, grazing outdoors in the fresh air and on pasture 365 days a year.
Hart Dairy sources milk from Hart Dairy farms in Waynesboro, Ga., managing herds of Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW New Zealand Friesian – Jersey crossbreeds. These breeds are known for their longevity when managed in outdoor, pasture-based systems like those utilized by Hart Dairy.
“It’s very common for Hart Dairy cows to live more than 12 years, while the average conventional dairy cows live less than 5 years,” says Mandy Schulz, Marketing Manager at Hart Dairy. “Another fun fact: every two cows has over a football field of space! They also produce rich, creamy milk with an old-fashioned full milk flavor—something that keeps Hart Dairy customers coming back for more.”
Hart Dairy is dedicated to raising its cows and producing milk with the health of the animals, planet, and people at the forefront of its operation.
The Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW dairy cattle that are part of the Hart Dairy network are rotationally managed, grazing one section of pasture before being moved to fresh fields. This type of management allows grass to recover before cows return to graze again; it also keeps the soil properly fertilized and minimizes the build-up of internal parasites, thereby avoiding reliance on chemical treatments. Rotational grazing benefits the health and welfare of the cattle, providing the best outcomes for both the cattle and the pastures.
Tim Connell, Hart Dairy CEO says, “It’s time to care about your milk. We put animal welfare, nutrition, and reversing climate change at the very top of our priority list.”
In addition to being Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Hart Dairy is also a pilot participant in the Certified Regenerative by AGW program, a hard-earned badge of difference demonstrating a commitment to the environment and local communities. Hart Dairy’s commitment to regenerative farming practices led them to be selected as one of approximately 50 companies in the world invited to join the pilot program. Certified Regenerative by AGW will provide a whole-farm assurance of sustainability, measuring benefits for soil, water, air, biodiversity, infrastructure, animal welfare and social responsibility.
