Siblings Erin, Lauren and Matt Williams raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World…
Kinne Brook Farm – Worthington, MA
Eliza Lake and Bart Niswonger, and their two young children, Augustus and Charlotte, raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW beef cattle at Kinne Brook Farm in Worthington, MA. The farm has been in the Lake family since 1980, and Eliza and Bart bought the 86-acre farm in 2010. The family live in the early 19th-century farmhouse on the property.
The cattle at Kinne Brook Farm are raised and finished entirely on grass, where they are free to roam and graze and engage in natural ruminant behavior. Grassfed beef is proven to have higher levels of ‘good’ fats, such as omega-3s and conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs), as well as vitamin E. “We manage our cattle in an intensive grazing system, moving them every two days to avoid overgrazing and encourage lush grass growth, which in turn promotes a rich, diverse ecosystem in our fields,” Eliza explains. “We have Highland cattle because they thrive on a 100 percent grass and forage diet. They’re great at eating grasses, as well as invasive, non-grass ‘stuff,’ and produce a rich, flavorful beef. We’re really proud that we’re transitioning the farm to sustainable, non-chemical practices by working with the animals’ natural instincts and abilities.”
Eliza and Bart are committed to the high-welfare treatment of all the animals on the farm, ensuring their health and happiness at all times.
